What is Title IX

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, 20 U.S.C. ァ1681 et seq., protects individuals from discrimination and harassment based on sex in any educational program or activity operated by recipients of federal financial assistance. Sexual harassment, including sexual violence, is a form of sex discrimination and is therefore prohibited under Title IX. Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal, nonverbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature constitute sexual harassment when this conduct is so severe, persistent or pervasive that it explicitly or implicitly affects an individual’s employment, unreasonably interferes with an individual’s work or educational performance, or creates an intimidating or hostile work or educational environment.

Angelina College is committed to providing an environment of academic study and employment free from harassment or discrimination to all segments of its community; its faculty, staff, students, guests and vendors; and will promptly address all complaints of discrimination, sexual harassment, and related retaliation in accordance with applicable federal and state laws.

Members of the Angelina College community, students, employees, and guests have the right to be free from discrimination and sexual harassment, including sexual assault. All members of the campus community are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that does not infringe upon the rights of others. The College believes in a zero tolerance policy for gender-based misconduct. When an allegation of misconduct is brought to an appropriate administrator’s attention, and a respondent is found to have violated this policy, sanctions will be used to reasonably ensure that such actions are never repeated.

Whether you are a student, faculty, staff member or visitor, you have the right to file a complaint. Complaints or reports of sexual misconduct should be submitted to the Angelina College Title IX coordinator.
