TSI is an acronym for the Texas Success Initiative. TSI is a state initiative that assesses a student's readiness to be successful in college-level course work.

All students, unless otherwise exempt (see below) must take the TSI Assessment prior to enrolling in college-level courses, to determine their course placement. 

Certificate (Level 1) seeking students are exempt from TSI.

ACT scores: Composite 23 and English 19 for reading & writing exemption; Composite 23 and Math 19 for a math exemption.

SAT administered prior to March 5, 2016 scores: a combined critical reading and mathematics score of 1070 with a minimum of 500 on the critical reading test for reading & writing exemption; a combined critical reading and mathematics score of 1070 with a minimum of 500 on the math test for a math exemption.

SAT administered after March 5, 2016 scores: a minimum score of 480 on the Evidenced Based Reading and Writing (EBRW) for an exemption in both reading and writing; a minimum score of 530 on the mathematics test for an exemption in math.

STAAR scores: English III Reading score of 2000 exempts reading; English III Writing score of 2000 exempts writing; Algebra II score of 4000 exempts math.

Honorable Discharge from US military. Must submit DD214, member 4.
